I have a demonstrated record of working well under pressure; meeting deadlines; developing imaginative and innovative solutions to workplace problems; building consensus; strong interpersonal and negotiation skills; and, resolving highly sensitive, complex and/or unprecedented problems.

On a personal note, I have lived and worked in Sonoma County since 1971; have a strong sense of intellectual curiosity; enjoy conducting research on a broad range of topics; am a devoted life-long learner; am a vociferous reader; a cinema buff; and a “whole-food plant based” foodie.

Professional Experience: Since 1984, I have been the sole proprietor of the Employment Law and Mediation Office of Fred Engbarth. During this time I have represented more than 1000 public and private sector employees (staff, supervisors, managers, and administrators) and successfully resolved claims arising under state and federal laws including: violations of the FMLA, FLSA, RLA, ERISA; discrimination claims based on age, race, gender, religion, disability, perceived disability, national origin, sexual harassment, retaliation; wrongful termination; defamation; intentional infliction of emotional distress; and constitutional claims for public sector clients

In addition, I have represented and defended individuals holding professional licenses (dentists, psychologists, care providers, nurses, teachers, and the like) issued by the State of California in disciplinary actions and administrative hearings.

While working at Sonoma State University (1971-1984), I served as Assistant to the President/Judicial Affairs reporting directly to the University’s President as “in house” legal advisor, with broad discretion and wide latitude for independent judgment Providing advice and counsel for compliance with laws, regulations, and human resource policies. Conducted investigations related to violations of campus policy, state or federal law.

Associate Dean (Students/Judicial Affairs Officer: While serving as the Associate Dean of Students, the University’s administration gave me the responsibility for investigating campus-wide complaints, grievances and disciplinary actions.

Student Affairs Professional: In the course of my tenure with the University, I received frequent promotions as a Student Affairs, Student Affairs Officer and Assistant Director of Student Activities-Student Union before my promotion to Associate Dean of Students.

Other work experiences, resident advisor, ombudsman, counselor, and real estate salesman (property management), and, ambulance attendant and driver, among others.

Teaching Experience: Instructor, Empire College School of Law (1) Legal Research and Writing; (2) Orientation to Legal Studies; and (3) Legal Practice & Writing Instructor, Extended Education, Sonoma State University (1982) Legal Research and Writing.
Throughout my career as an attorney I have led workshops and training programs on a variety of topics related to employment law, labor law and, alternative dispute Resolution.
